Radcliffe Camera, Oxford

Radcliffe Square, Oxford

I visited Oxford last Thursday (26 February); here’s a photograph of Radcliffe Camera.

Radcliffe Camera houses the Radcliffe Science Library in Oxford; (‘Camera’ is Latin for ‘Room’). Construction started in 1737 but it was not opened until 1749.

It’s a Reading Room for College Students; I don’t think visitors are allowed in the building. I took this photograph from the Tower of St Mary The Virgin.

London St George Wharf Tower at Sunrise

Vauxhall, London
14 December 2014

We arrived back in London from Edinburgh at around 0600 hours; I took the scenic route home. This means walking along the Thames Path for a while čÖé

This is St George Wharf Tower at Vauxhall; I’ve photographed it many times before but the sun sets behind me.

This is a 1.3 second exposure with an ND Filter; I took ND Filters (and a Tripod) with me to Scotland but it was too cold there so I never used them.

London Battersea Power Station and Railways at Dawn

Ebury Bridge, London
14 December 2014

We arrived back in London from Edinburgh at around 0600 hours; dawn was breaking and I wanted a photograph before going home.

I’ve visited this location before in 2008; it was much busy then (it was a Saturday Night). On this Sunday Morning, I had to wait a while for a train that would give me just the streak I need before daylight.

(PS: Battersea Power Station was really missing a Chimney when I visited).

Edinburgh: One More Thing

Edinburgh
13 December 2014

The coach back to London was scheduled to leave at 2145 hours on Saturday 13 December so I spent the last few hours wandering the streets. There was no point in taking more photos as the night sky was very dark, very black and the street lights just weren’t as bright as the ones in London. London Skies are brownish at night . . . I don’t remember them being black.

I kept an eye out for a Costa Coffee Shop but they were closed so I settled for Starbucks somewhere at the Corner of George Street and North Castle Street where the nice young lady gave my Hot Chocolate Drink to the guy next to me while I got his Latte (we didn’t notice the mix-up till we sipped; he tried to complain, couldn’t get her attention and left with the Chocolate while I left with his Latte).

There was a quiet room downstairs (at Starbucks) so I played with my iPad and downloaded the day’s steps from my Jaw band.

Didn’t get much sleep because the bus vibrates a lot but the Step Count is a personal best.

Edinburgh Trams at South St Andrews Street, Edinburgh (2)

South St Andrews Street, Edinburgh
13 December 2014

I saw these Trams during the day and planned to photograph them during the blue hour but was too late.

I prefer a symmetrical composition for shots like this one but it was just too cold for me to hold the camera steady while shivering so I leaned against a post.

WikiPedia says the Tramways was completed in May 2014; I didn’t know this when I visited Edinburgh.

The Balmoral, Princes Street, Edinburgh

Princes Street, Edinburgh
13 December 2014

I was on my way back from Royal Mile and I wanted to photograph the Trams at Twilight at St Andrews Street (next two blog posts) but I wasn’t going to get there in time. This was taken while I was waiting to cross the busy street.

The Balmoral is the building on the left.
