Photograph of a young couple introducing their son to a mute swan at the Round Pond, Kensington Gardens.

Nothing to see really but we had a couple of sunny days last week and I made time to visit Kensington Gardens.

Lots of folks had the same idea which made it difficult to get really clean candid shots. I am not very happy with this one but it was the best of the bunch and I haven’t been shooting for a few weeks so it was good to pick up a camera again.

The Sun Sets over Serpentine Lake

The Sun Sets Over Serpentine Lake

End of another day; I was lucky to witness these ducks leave the lake in single file just as the sun was setting.

From WikiPedia:

The Serpentine (also known as the Serpentine River) is a 28 acre (11 ha) recreational lake in Hyde Park, London, England, created in 1730.

In 1730 Queen Caroline, wife of George II, ordered the damming of the River Westbourne in Hyde Park as part of a general redevelopment of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

At that time, the Westbourne formed eleven natural ponds in the park. During the 1730s, the lake filled to its current size and shape.

At the time of construction, artificial lakes were long and straight. The Serpentine was one of the earliest artificial lakes designed to appear natural, and was widely imitated in parks and gardens nationwide.

Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival

I don’t think I shall be attending Notting HIll Carnival this year; last year was too stressful with the large crowds and my mini altercation with a police officer.

I think I shall sit this one out and see how the police officers behave this year.

Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event which takes place in Notting Hill, London, England each August, over two days (Sunday and the following bank holiday).

London Hammersmith Bridge Sunset (December 2008)

London Hammersmith Bridge Sunset (December 2008)

Hammersmith Bridge is a crossing of the River Thames in west London, just south of the Hammersmith town centre area of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on the north side of the river. It allows road traffic and pedestrians to cross to Barnes (in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames) on the south side of the river. The current bridge is the second permanent bridge on the site.

The current suspension bridge was designed by noted civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette. It was opened by the Prince of Wales on 11 June 1887. With much of the supporting structure built of wrought iron, it is 700 feet (210 m) long and 43 feet (13 m) wide and cost £82,117 to build.
