London Hammersmith Riverside Twilight

London Hammersmith Riverside Twilight

An old archive shot from October 2007 found while searching for another picture.

This is the Hammersmith Riverside as seen from the Hammersmith Bridge; the view is towards Barnes in West London

The Grand Entrance

The Grand Entrance

This was taken on the same night as the previous image; it had taken me a while to scout around for great subjects to shoot and I’ll be back here on better days . . .

The cut off (and blown) building on the right is Apsley House and apparently has a great history. For over 200 years, it used to be known colloquially as “Number 1, London” because it was the first house encountered after passing the tollgates at the top of Knightsbridge on their way to London. It’s one of the subjects that deserve another look in better light (and weather).

The Grand Entrance to Hyde Park, at Hyde Park Corner next to Apsley House, was erected from the designs of Decimus Burton in 1824-25.

It consists of a screen of handsome fluted Ionic columns, with three carriage entrance archways, two foot entrances, a lodge, etc.

Day 78: Hyde Park Subway (2)

Hyde Park Subway (2)

Another visit to this location at twilight though by the time I found some great subjects, it was all over!

Day 77: Hyde Park Subway

Hyde Park Subway

Subway leading to the Hyde Park Corner Tube Station in Central London.

London has been overcast for days and the twilight periods have been very short though I managed to catch all of 5 minutes of twilight on Day 78!

Day 76: What lies Beneath the City

What lies Beneath the City

I am not too fond of the treatment of this one; I’ve played around with a few ideas but I can’t seem to replicate what I saw in my mind before I pressed the shutter.

Day 75: Big Ben from Great George Street

Big Ben from Great George Street

This picture was taken at around 2300 hours in Central London on a rainy night.

Big Ben is a popular landmark and though I have shot a simlar view about a year ago, the point of view this time is much lower.

On this night, I had just one hour to take pictures before Day 75 ends (and the Tube Stations start shutting down).

PS: I shot this at +4/3 EV but I have deliberately processed it darker . . .

Day 72: Putney Bridge and Wharf

Putney Bridge and Wharf

As usual, I was working too late to catch the shots I really wanted so I stopped to take this picture before the twilight colors disappeared.

This is Putney Bridge in West London with Putney Wharf in the background and the Thames Path between Hammersmith and Putney in the foreground.

(The flare on the right is from my damaged lens which I dropped on Day 22; I hope to get it repaired before the end of the month).
