I’ve seen this boat on my visits to Richmond on Fridays but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to get a half decent shot of it in the last two years.

The boat is called "New Southern Belle"; it is a Mississipi-style stern wheeler bringing a flavour of the old New Orleans to the River Thames.

It is half empty in this shot but it usually full of party revellers at this time. I think it is a pub that docks periodically to pick up more punters but I am not really sure. Richmond Bridge is in the background and there is another pier shortly after the bridge where it picks up more punters as well.

I took a walk to Barnes after work yesterday.

It isn’t my favourite part of London to photograph; the Thames here is quite smelly and the many street lights in the area tend to kill my night shots with horrible color casts; that’s why I processed this one differently.

Barnes Railway Bridge is only one of three bridges in London to combine pedestrian and rail use; the others being the Fulham Railway Bridge and Hungerford Bridge. .

Built in 1849 to a design by Joseph Locke - and looking very similar to the current Richmond Railway Bridge which he also designed - it was rebuilt by the London & South Western Railway in 1895. The original Locke span still stands unused on the upstream side.

St George’s Wharf isn’t really a pretty sight on the Riverside.

Now there are plans to build a 594ft Skyscraper (which will make the building the 6th tallest in London - The Gerkhin is 590ft). Work is due to start by the end of 2008 and I think that may be what the cranes are for.

This was meant to be shot during the blue hour but I lost the sky and soon after was pelted with sleet so I packed up and went home.

It’s the Year End (for accountants anyway) and I got stuck in the office all day despite the very beautiful weather outside.

This was taken after I left the office at 1830 hours; it was the nearest subject I could find before the light disappeared.

I really needed a tripod here but I don’t take mine to work so I placed the camera on one of the exposed rocks at low tide.
